Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Dog training: the process of teaching a dog (Canis lupus familiaris) to perform certain actions in response to certain commands which the dog is trained to understand. It is a general term which does not, by itself, describe what or how the dog is taught. There are many methods of dog training and many objectives, from basic obedience training to specialized areas including law enforcement, military, search and rescue, hunting, working with livestock, assistance to people with disabilities, entertainment, dog sports and protecting people or property. As pack animals, wild dogs have natural instincts that favor cooperation with their fellow dogs. Many domestic dogs, either through instinct or breeding, can correctly interpret and respond to signals given by a human handler. From Wikipedia under the

I currently have my 5 month old in puppy class. I was going to go through all 4 classes at Petsmart, but now I'm thinking I could save about $300.00 and teach my dog the same things (and probably more), if I invest in a good book or DVD. Any suggestions? I'd prefer a DVD, but books are fine too. That way I can also apply the training to our other two dogs at the same time. I do have a clicker... I was very impressed with how easy and quickly she responded to it. I take my dogs to the dog park so they do a lot of socializing there. I'm just not very impressed with the training I'm getting. Asking questions is hard, because I think the trainer is more distracted than the dogs. :-) Asked by kalamibe - Sat Nov 4 10:33:51 2006 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments A. The 'for dummies' series are always good. But, please ask your vet for listings of other local obedience clubs (surely some are cheaper) & do take your pup to a formal class. The benefits are as much about socializing your pup as is about teaching manners. That is something you can't get with home schooling. Answered by mustanglynnie - Sat Nov 4 10:43:30 2006 Is there anyway I can learn dog training without owning a dog? Q. I would like to get a dog but I cannot currently, circumstances wont allow it. But since I have never had owned a dog myself I don't even know how to teach a dog how to sit! Where can I go to learn dog training without having a dog to train? Asked by H - Thu Nov 12 12:55:42 2009 - - 23 Answers - 0 Comments A. You could borrow one from a friend and start with something as simple as Petsmart classes. You also might consider a Schutzhund club...possibly training as a "helper". Eventually, you'd want to apprentice under a seasoned trainer for 1-3 years. The more dogs and the more diverse the breeds, the better. Answered by Dutch - Thu Nov 12 13:02:22 2009 Can someone help me find a dog training facility with a good price?
Q. Possibly somewhere in New York or around New York like New Jersey or Conneticut or something. I'm looking for one of those training facilities that has boarding for your dog and, of course, a training program. (Example: k9one) I've already looked at k9one, but I was hoping some could give me a place with a cheaper price. Please provide a link or something so that I can check it out myself. Thank you! I also go to the ocotc and it is $50 for an 8 week course, but they also teach you how to show in obedience. Answered by twidge11 - Wed Apr 15 19:52:09 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "dog training"
