What animal should I make my clay whistle sculpture in art?
Q. I have never used clay before, so I need an easy clay animal to make. I must make a whistle out of clay and then turn it into an animal. For example, somebody made a whistle and then sculpted a dragon around it. You blow into its tail and the whistle sound comes out of its mouth. If you don't get it, just tell me some animals that will be easy to make out of clay. I think it will be approximately 12cm long.

How does whistle on the Lionel tender car work? When you push the whistle button, what type of signal is sent?
Q. When you have no tender car, pushing the whistle button makes the engine run faster. However, when you have the tender, the button makes the whistle blow regardless of the speed setting, without speeding up the engine. How does this work?

A. ...sets use a power supple that steps down the voltage from your wall outlet to a nice 16-18 volts, that is fed to the controller. The controller has a large knob to adjust the level of power to the track, and two push buttons. One button interrupts the power to the track and thus forces the the E-Unit Reversing board to cycle (if the switch on the locomotive is on...but that's a story for another day). The other button activates the horn. The horn/whistle activation button uses diodes to place a DC pulse on top of the AC signal, the horn circuit board senses that pulse and sounds the horn.

A. Well, the way i do is stretch my upper lip over my top teeth, shape my toungue like a shallow dish so that the area just behind the tip of it is touching my top lip. I aim the air at the opening of my mouth and form a hole by tensing my lower lip over my bottom teeth It's very hard to explain! The way i learned how to do it was by observing someone else doing it.

A. He is probably very scared, once you get him picked up (make sure and use both hands so he don't feel like he's falling!) use a blanket to cuddle him in. It may give him extra security. And maybe feed him a treat while you are holding him, so he looks forward to being picked up! Hope this helped!

A. Make sure your fingers are covering the holes totally. Ease up on the air on the lower register, and speed up the flow on the upper register. But it sounds like your fingers just aren't over the holes entirely. Air slips out and causes a squeak/squeal.

A. The following are step-by-step instructions on how to whistle using your fingers: How to whistle loudly using two fingers "I find the easiest two-fingered loud whistle to do is to use my index finger and thumb of my right hand. Here's how to do it: Loosely touch the tip of your bent index finger to the tip of your thumb. Rest the bottom of your joined fingers (if you're using your right hand, the thumb is to the right) on your lower teeth with the tips of your loosely joined fingers pushing against the bottom part of your tongue (which pushes back). Your lips should be pressed down against your fingers. The joined fingers make the "V" into which you blow (you should blow slightly down). It definitely makes a shrill sound that gets… [cont.]

How can I outfit a car with a slide whistle?
Q. I was once at a self-cut Christmas tree farm where they had old jeeps that would go out and pick up your tree, all outfitted with slide whistles instead of horns. The slide whistle was mounted on the hood, and seemed to go off when the driver pressed the horn. I've seen lots of slide whistles out there, but none that are designed to be played electrically or mechanically.

Why does my cat act strange when I sing in the whistle register?
Q. Okay, I am capable of singing in the whistle register and sometimes practice in my room. When I do sing in the whistle register (I can't whistle though) my cat becomes affection. She makes a loud purr and then whenever I do it she comes to me and butts her head against me. I don't think she hates it, because she acts very affectionate and comes to me when I do it. Why does she do this?
Asked by val - Sun Dec 2 04:38:13 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Every cat I've ever had pays attention to me when I whistle; although I'd like to think it's because they are happy to hear it and want to love on me, I think the truth is that they find the sound rather offensive and it hurts their ears. Their sense of hearing is far superior to our own, obviously. I think the reason for their acting more affectionate is really them telling us to stop, and sometimes cats can get "over-stimulated" whether it's with touch or sound, so perhaps the purring and rubbing is just a natural reaction for her and it comes off the wrong way. I mean, I don't think their hearing will be impaired by it, but I don't think we should go around blasting whistles in their ears either, just for the sake of extra kitty love - [cont.]

Would you tell me the proper way to use a dog whistle?
Q. I would like to know the pros and cons of the whistle. I have a 2 year old female apbt by the way.
Asked by Master of Disaster - Sat Oct 20 23:15:18 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. We use a whistle when handling. One Blast on the whistle means the same thing as the voice command "sit". Then with the dog facing us from the remote sit we will cast the dog in the direction we want it to go with a hand/arm signal. (the dog can be several hundred yards away when we do this) A trill on the whistle (tweet-ta-tweet) means the same as the voice command "come".

Why does my car make a whistle sound when I turn the wheel and brake?
Q. I have a 2001 Alero GLS Oldsmobile. When I turn my wheel and brake at the same time my car makes a whistle sound and it only occurs when I turn and brake. I have checked all my fluids and none of them are low. I haven't had my brakes changed in a year so I don't know if that is the problem, but I'm having them changed next weekend. I also hear a clicking sound when I drive that increases with frequency when I increase my speed and decreases with frequency when I decrease my speed. Any possible answers are welcomed and greatly appreciated.
Asked by laven29 - Sun Nov 12 18:55:00 2006 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well to start off, sound number 1 sounds like a brake problem. As you turn the wheel, you load the wheel bearing that in turn allows the rotor to contact the low pad indicator on your brake pad. This will be resolved when you replace the brakes. If it has only been a year since the last time you replaced the brakes, you better be using your brakes a lot for them to be worn out already. Now, I do know that if you install the brake pads incorrectly, the outboard brake pad on the inside and vice versa, it will cause the brakes to wear out prematurely and cause noise. If you are replacing the brakes yourself, take a look and make sure they are installed correctly. There should be a tab on the back of the pad, one has a small tab and… [cont.]

What is wrong with a referee with a plastic whistle?
Q. This is just a silly question. In the early days of the NHL, referees used a bell instead of a whistle. It is explained they did this to prevent a cold metal whistle sticking to dry chapped lips. So, I was thinking if that were true, why don t they use a plastic whistle? Not manly enough? Can you think of any other loud noisemaker that would be better than a whistle?
Asked by Homes - Tue Oct 28 14:06:28 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Silly question but you are getting a serious answer: Pitch. A plastic whistle has a much higher pitch than a metal whistle. In the early days of the NHL, arenas did not have the luxuries of today's NHL and the arenas were closer temperature wise to today's local arenas. Most are not that bad now a days but every once in while we still walk into a rink that is so cold that our whistles freeze up I handle that situation with a little hockey tape around the mouth piece of the whistle. It's always on there so I don't chip a tooth but it really helps when it is cold out.
