What animal should I make my clay whistle sculpture in art?
Q. I have never used clay before, so I need an easy clay animal to make. I must make a whistle out of clay and then turn it into an animal. For example, somebody made a whistle and then sculpted a dragon around it. You blow into its tail and the whistle sound comes out of its mouth. If you don't get it, just tell me some animals that will be easy to make out of clay. I think it will be approximately 12cm long.

What make the whistle sounds in my chevrolet astro van 1991 during the movement?

During the movement i hair a whistle sound from either front or rear wheels but this sound disapear when i press the brake, does this sound due to the bad discs or other sierius things . do i need to replace the front disc pads or drum pads even the thickness of the clear pad is about of 6mm (0.4in). Also in some times a loud whistle is heard when i press on the brake?

A. Make sure your fingers are covering the holes totally. Ease up on the air on the lower register, and speed up the flow on the upper register. But it sounds like your fingers just aren't over the holes entirely. Air slips out and causes a squeak/squeal.

Q. I was once at a self-cut Christmas tree farm where they had old jeeps that would go out and pick up your tree, all outfitted with slide whistles instead of horns. Q. Okay, I am capable of singing in the whistle register and sometimes practice in my room. When I do sing in the whistle register (I can't whistle though) my cat becomes affection. She makes a loud purr and then whenever I do it she comes to me and butts her head against me. I don't think she hates it, because she acts very affectionate and comes to me when I do it. Why does she do this?

Every cat I've ever had pays attention to me when I whistle; although I'd like to think it's because they are happy to hear it and want to love on me, I think the truth is that they find the sound rather offensive and it hurts their ears. Their sense of hearing is far superior to our own, obviously. I think the reason for their acting more affectionate is really them telling us to stop, and sometimes cats can get "over-stimulated" whether it's with touch or sound, so perhaps the purring and rubbing is just a natural reaction for her and it comes off the wrong way. I mean, I don't think their hearing will be impaired by it, but I don't think we should go around blasting whistles in their ears either, just for the sake of extra kitty love - [cont.]

Why does my car make a whistle sound when I turn the wheel and brake?
Q. I have a 2001 Alero GLS Oldsmobile. When I turn my wheel and brake at the same time my car makes a whistle sound and it only occurs when I turn and brake. I have checked all my fluids and none of them are low. I haven't had my brakes changed in a year so I don't know if that is the problem, but I'm having them changed next weekend. I also hear a clicking sound when I drive that increases with frequency when I increase my speed and decreases with frequency when I decrease my speed. Any possible answers are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

A. Well to start off, sound number 1 sounds like a brake problem. As you turn the wheel, you load the wheel bearing that in turn allows the rotor to contact the low pad indicator on your brake pad. This will be resolved when you replace the brakes. If it has only been a year since the last time you replaced the brakes, you better be using your brakes a lot for them to be worn out already. Now, I do know that if you install the brake pads incorrectly, the outboard brake pad on the inside and vice versa, it will cause the brakes to wear out prematurely and cause noise. If you are replacing the brakes yourself, take a look and make sure they are installed correctly. There should be a tab on the back of the pad, one has a small tab and… [cont.]

Q. This is just a silly question. In the early days of the NHL, referees used a bell instead of a whistle. It is explained they did this to prevent a cold metal whistle sticking to dry chapped lips. So, I was thinking if that were true, why don t they use a plastic whistle? Not manly enough? Can you think of any other loud noisemaker that would be better than a whistle?

A. Silly question but you are getting a serious answer: Pitch. A plastic whistle has a much higher pitch than a metal whistle. In the early days of the NHL, arenas did not have the luxuries of today's NHL and the arenas were closer temperature wise to today's local arenas. Most are not that bad now a days but every once in while we still walk into a rink that is so cold that our whistles freeze up I handle that situation with a little hockey tape around the mouth piece of the whistle. It's always on there so I don't chip a tooth but it really helps when it is cold out.

It's always on there so I don't chip a tooth but it really helps when it is cold out.

Why does a gas regulator make a whistle noise when being used?
Q. The gas regulator (on bbq grill) makes a whistle noise.Can this be a simple repair by me or a professional.What causes this noise?

A. it's the gas moving over the diaphram - thre's no way to fix it. You'd have to replace it. It isn't failing though, so it's not hurting anything.

how to tweak accordeon to sound like the whistle melody on ice cream paint job?
Q. Im remakin ice cream paint job by dorrough but i cant get the accordeon to sound right. Every other time i remade the song i used the trap whistle but the accordeon, when tweaked correctly, sounds closer to the sound in the song. Anyone know how to adjust it?
