However it is also important to look at things from their point of view. You have to clearly demonstrate why your idea is good for THEM and why it is better than any other. You have to be receptive regarding of what they consider their best interest... they might feel differently about that than you. Address all key elements without going into boring details and make sure that they understand that you are keeping the group's best interest in mind, and not necessarily your own. Best of luck! Obviously those books had enough of a target audience to at least get published. Most readers aren't terribly picky about target audiences anyway. I'm middle aged, but I've read and enjoyed Harry Potter and other series that are officially aimed at kids. If you go for a target audience, go for one you understand. If you're a 19 year old guy, you probably don't have a very good sense of what middle aged housewives look for in their reading. And definitely, if you hate vampire books, don't try to write a vampire book because that's what's hot.
