A detection dog or sniffer dog is a dog that is trained to and works at using its senses (almost always the sense of smell) to detect substances such as explosives, illegal drugs, or blood. Hunting dogs that search for game and search dogs that search for missing humans are generally not considered detection dogs. There is some overlap, as in the case of human remains detection dogs (sometimes called cadaver dogs), trained to detect human remains. They are also used for drug raids to find where the drugs are. In the state of California, dogs are trained to detect the Quagga Mussel on boats at public boat ramps, as it is a invasive species. Sniffer dogs have also been enlisted to find bumblebee nests. The Bumblebee Conservation Trust has trained a springer spaniel to detect the colonies, assisting them with the conservation of threatened species. Some prisons have dog trained to detect iliicit cell phones in prison cells. From Wikipedia under the

Q. Can anyone provide me any links that provides a statistical analysis on this subject? Thank you. Asked by land - Sun Sep 28 11:31:30 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I doubt anyone accumulate statistics on that. However, considering dogs can detect just a small amount of explosive residue, I would think the chances of finding an entire bomb would be easy. Answered by trooper3316 - Sun Sep 28 15:14:59 2008 what is the best dog, for protection and detection ? Q. i want a dog that is on point and alert at all times, but cool and not goofy. i want a dog that senses stuff, and can offer protection , i want a big and strong dog, what type of dog or mixed dog do i need ? Asked by KNIOFE - Thu Nov 13 15:38:39 2008 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments A. Protection dogs are trained. Some dogs are naturally protective, but protection dogs are a different story. The most commonly used dogs for Schutzhund training are German Shepherd Dog Belgian Malinois American Bulldog Boxer Bouvier des Flandres Rottweilers Doberman Pinscher Airdale Terrier Giant Schnauzer No responsible breeder would sell you a dog solely for 'protection' unless you plan on going through protection training. And even with those breeds, there are certain dogs that excel and others that don't. A line that's not work driven will have a much harder time at this type of training than another line. Just running out and buying a GSD doesn't mean he'll be protective or good for protection. I was bitten by a stray dog...
Q. while I was parking my vehicle. The wound doesn't look that deep but I have got myself vaccinated by injection to prevent rabies. The strange thing is that I have got bitten by the same dog, which I have been nurturing for past 5 days. The reason for taking care of this dog is that it has given birth to 5 young ones. I had been giving food , provided shelter in my shop when it was raining. Considering this, the behavior of the dog looks abnormal or maybe it may be affected by the rabies. Now my problem is that if I report the dog for testing in the Goverment laboratory for rabies detection, the young ones will die without her mother? If i don't report, I am letting other people risk with being bitten by the dog? what should i do?… [cont.] Asked by HITS_ON_TARGET - Tue Jul 17 14:19:05 2007 - - 20 Answers - 0 Comments A. buy puppy new born milk and take the mother to the Gov't detection but dont tell them about the babies because ur right they will die, the gov't will kill the babies Answered by pasofinosweety - Tue Jul 17 14:22:22 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Detection dog" |
